Purpose
The Student Peace Awards program honors junior and senior high school students who have made a positive contribution to their school or wider community by promoting mutual understanding and respect for all people.
Our vision is the propagation of Student Peace Awards in school districts across the country. We will happily share our experience and advice to help others start their own programs. This website is designed to be shared by any group that creates a similar program.
History
The student peace awards program began in 2006 with one school in Fairfax County, Virginia. By 2013 the program included all schools in the county. Inspired by their success, a group in Frederick County, Maryland implented an awards program in 2014 with four high schools in one district. The program expanded in the following year to include all high schools in the county with nearly 3/4 of the high schools participating. All public and several private high schools in the county are now participating in Frederick County.
This website was established in 2016 to encourage more high school districts to participate.
